This site does a full text search, searching through all fields to provide the most complete
search results. The most relevant search results appear at the top of your results. Fields include:
1. Tool Number
2. Tool Name
3. Keyword
Use words or phrases. If you are unsure how to spell the search term use partial words to ensure the widest search results.
Essential Special Service Tools are tools that are critically necessary to properly and effectively service the vehicle components. The Global Tool Numbering applies to Essential Special Service Tools only.
•Global tool numbers were created to standardize tool numbers globally and for consistency in GM service information.
•Global tool numbering for ESSTs is categorized by vehicle component.
•Tool numbers include an alpha-prefix followed by a 5-digit number
The prefixes below indicate the basic vehicle component group. The group prefix corresponds to the component group for which the tool was initially developed however, a tool may be used on multiple component groups.
•BO - Body
•CH - Chassis
•DT - Drivetrain
•EL - Electrical
•EN - Engine
•GE - General
The prefixes below were used prior to Global Tool Numbering
•J - Kent-Moore USA Numbering System
•KM - Used for tools that were developed in Europe

J-28467 Older tool developed in USA
KM-670 Older tool developed in Europe
